Parents

College is a new phase for many young adults and, for some, it is a life-changing experience.  It is a new step in which young adults can begin to become independent in making their own decisions and living by their own rules.

The college experience can be a complicated and emotional time for both parents and students.  Students are concerned about making friends and being accepted, starting challenging classes, missing their high school friends and have anxious feelings about the whole college experience in general.

Parents may also feel a variety of emotions.  However, as a parent, the most important thing you can do is help your child transition from a high school student to adulthood.

This page is especially devised for, you as, parents to help cope with mixed emotions and to help guide your child into the college experience.  There are a few important issues to discuss with your child before they leave for school.
